About SBA Lender Data
SBA Lender Data is an independent research project that aggregates the U.S. Small Business Administration's public 7(a) loan records into searchable, comparable profiles of every active SBA lender.
Why this exists
Most "best SBA lender" rankings online are driven by paid placements, affiliate commissions, or curated editorial picks — not by the underlying loan data. The data is public — the SBA publishes every 7(a) loan it guarantees through its Office of Capital Access. It's just fragmented across multiple quarterly files and difficult to compare apples-to-apples.
We parse the raw FOIA files each quarter, reconcile lender names across merger/acquisition history, and compute the metrics that actually matter to a prospective borrower: loan volume, charge-off rate, average loan size, industry specialization, and geographic reach. Then we publish every lender's profile at a clean URL, with every figure traceable back to the public source file.
How we're funded
The site earns revenue from:
- Qualified lead referrals to SBA lender networks (when a visitor opts into our matching form).
- Display advertising on non-lender pages.
- Featured placement purchases by lenders — always clearly labeled as Featured.
No lender pays for placement in our organic rankings. Every ranking on every page of this site is computed deterministically from the SBA FOIA dataset. Our data pipeline does not know which lenders are our sponsors.
Data source and refresh cadence
All figures are computed from the SBA Office of Capital Access 7(a) FOIA dataset. The SBA releases an updated file each quarter. We reprocess the full dataset and republish every page within 7 days of each release.
Current snapshot: 2025-12-31 — 357,866 loans, $185.9B approved, 2,186 distinct lenders.
Corrections
If you spot a figure that looks wrong on any page, please email corrections@sbalenderdata.com with the URL and the value you believe is incorrect. We re-verify against the source file and publish corrections within 3 business days.
Editorial standards
- Every quantitative claim on the site is computed from the FOIA dataset. No estimates, no projections.
- Charge-off rates are computed only on the FY2020–FY2023 cohort to avoid penalising recent vintages that haven't had time to resolve.
- Rankings require minimum loan counts to avoid statistical noise (≥50 for profile eligibility, ≥500 for risk rankings).
- We never alter a ranking because a lender asked us to.
